Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna is used for:
Treating and preventing low levels of iron in the blood caused by certain types of anemia. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna is a combination of iron, vitamins, folic acid, and a stomach absorption substance. It also contains senna, which is a laxative. Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna works by replacing iron, certain vitamins, and folic acid in your body. The stomach absorption substance helps the body to absorb Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna. The senna is used to treat constipation that may be caused by the iron in Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna.
Do NOT use Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna
- you have high levels of iron in your blood

Before using Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna:
Some medical conditions may interact with Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:
- if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
- if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
- if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
- if you have inflammation of the intestines, Crohn disease, digestive problems, ulcers, anemia, or a blood disease (eg, porphyria, thalassemia)
- if you have had multiple blood transfusions
- if you have a history of alcohol abuse or if you have had recent stomach or bowel surgery
Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:
- Fluorouracil because the risk of its side effects may be increased by Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna
- Doxycycline, hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), penicillamine, or thyroid hormones (eg, levothyroxine) because their effectiveness may be decreased by Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna

How to use Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna:
Use Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- Take Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna by mouth with food.
- Use a measuring device marked for medicine dosing. Ask your pharmacist for help if you are unsure of how to measure your dose.
- Do not take Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna within 1 hour before or 2 hours after antacids, eggs, whole grain breads, cereal, milk, milk products, coffee, or tea.
- Take Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna with a full glass of water (8 oz/240 mL). Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna.
- If you are also taking a bisphosphonate (eg, alendronate), a cephalosporin (eg, cefdinir), methyldopa, penicillamine, a quinolone (eg, ciprofloxacin), or a tetracycline (eg, minocycline) along with Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna, you may need to space the doses several hours apart. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how much time is needed between doses of Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna and your other medicines.
- If you miss a dose of Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Important safety information:
- Do not take large doses of vitamins (megadoses or megavitamin therapy) while you take Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna unless your doctor tells you to.
- Do not take more than the recommended dose or take Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna for longer than 6 months without checking with your doctor.
- Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna may cause your stools to darken. This is normal and not a cause for concern.

- Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna has folic acid and vitamin B6 in it. Before you start any new medicine, check the label to see if it has folic acid or vitamin B6 in it too. If it does or if you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
- Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna may interfere with certain lab tests, including tests used to check for blood in the stool. Be sure your doctor and lab personnel know you are taking Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna.
- Lab tests, including blood tests and iron levels, may be performed while you use Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
- Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna should be used with extreme caution in CHILDREN; safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed.
- PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of taking Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna while you are pregnant. Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you take Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.
Possible side effects of Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna:
All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:
Constipation; darkened or green stools; diarrhea; nausea; stomach upset.
Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:
Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); black, tarry stools; blood or streaks of blood in the stool; fever; rectal bleeding; severe or persistent diarrhea; vomiting, especially with continuing sharp stomach pain.

Symptoms may include difficulty breathing; loss of consciousness; seizures; severe nausea or diarrhea; stomach pain; tarry stools; unusual tiredness or drowsiness; unusually pale skin; vomiting; vomiting blood; weak, fast heartbeat.
Proper storage of Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna:
Store Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Iron Polysaccharide/Vitamins/Folic Acid/Intrinsic Factor/Senna out of the reach of children and away from pets.
